Culture and values

Our culture and values are the foundation of our business.

We combine independence and accountability with a spirit of collaboration and humility, creating an environment where deep and unconventional thinking thrives.

1. Humility

Questioning assumptions, recognising mistakes and adapting

2. Flat structure

Allowing people to focus on what they do best

3. Prioritising clients

We exist because of our clients

4. Respect

For clients, for each other and for the evidence

5. Individual accountability

We do not make committee-based decisions - the best decisions are made by individuals with diverse inputs

6. Meritocracy

The best ideas win, and the strongest thinkers shape decisions, regardless of their title

Built to think different

A culture that supports deep thinking

We value curiosity, rigorous analysis, and evidence. We debate openly and respectfully, challenging assumptions based on data.

Ownership that aligns everyone

74% of the firm is staff owned. This creates a genuine partnership environment where incentives and responsibility are shared.

Built on stability - driven by mastery

Most of our senior team has been with the business for 15–20+ years. People join to contribute - and stay to grow. Average tenure: 10 years.

Autonomy with accountability

Decisions rest with individuals, not committees, accelerating learning and promoting clarity.

Resource optimisation

Our people spend their energy on research, thinking, and adding value, not on navigating systems.

Purposeful work that has meaning

Every role at Camissa is directly connected to client outcomes. Our work has impact and our contributions are visible.

A place for
unconventional thinkers.

Camissa comes from the ancient Khoi word for “place of sweet waters”,

the name of one of Cape Town’s original water sources, which flowed from Table Mountain. Water is the source of life.

It reflects how we invest:

Returning to the source of value, looking beneath the surface, thinking deeply, remaining grounded, patient and clear.

It reminds us:

Enduring returns come from what is fundamental, not what is fashionable. The name captures the clarity, depth and discipline that define the Camissa way.
